Preparation and application of cationic soap-free latex as paper sizing synergistic agent

摘要：
A new cationic polymer latex as neutral sizing synergistic agent has been prepared with styrene(St) and acrylate in the presence of polymerizable surfactant by soap-free emulsion polymerization using 2,2'-azobis (isobutylamidine hydrochloride)(AIBA) as a cationic initiator. This cationic latex was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and the colloidal properties of latex particles were also measured. This cationic latex was applied together with anionic dispersing rosin sizing agent in the sizing of wheat straw pulp and softwood kraft pulp, an obvious increase in paper sizing degree was observed. In addition, the brightness and physical properties of treated pulps were also improved.
