Waste management as a part of an environmental management system in small and medium-sized enterprises

In the European Community the EC Environmental Management and Audit Regulation should be the basis for environmental protection. In this paper, the procedure of participation in the so called environmental audit is shown with regard to a medium-sized automotive supplier. The design of an environmental manual as a reasonable precondition for a waste management system is presented. Further, realization of a two-stage waste collection system and an information system for necessary data management is shown. For both the collection system and the information system the special needs of a medium-sized company are taken into account. Therefore, e.g., an information system based on the entity relationship model is described, the design is carried out with Microsoft Excel.
