Facilitating the Development of Foreign Language Communicative Competence in Context

On the basis of explicating the definition and connotations of foreign language communicative competence and contexts for foreign language communication, how teachers create contexts to facilitate the development of language learners' communicative competence is discussed. The developmental process of foreign language communicative competence is closely associated with the contexts that are intentionally designed by the foreign language teacher. Foreign language learners experience the external contexts, internalize, transform and construct them into internal mental contexts. These internal mental contexts are woven together with the foreign language expressions for communication, and become the learners' underlying foreign language communicative competence in their future communicative activities.
