Integrated machinery control system operator training tools for the Canadian Navy

The installation of the Integrated Machinery Control System (IMCS) in the Canadian Navy's new Patrol Frigates and updated Tribal Class ships has prompted a re-thinking of the way marine technicians are trained. CAE Electronics Ltd., in conjunction with the Canadian Department of National Defence, have developed new training platforms to allow the Navy to properly train its ship crews in an effective and efficient manner. These platforms consist of Classroom Trainers and On-Board Training Systems which share simulation models, Instructor Facility interfaces, utilities, and IMCS software. This paper will describe the new generation of Trainers being incorporated into the Canadian Naval environment and will expand upon the integration of the simulation models, the Instructor Facility and the IMCS as a specific training platform.
