Monitoting of cutting forces in end milling for intelligent machine tools

摘要
This paper presents a monitoring method of cutting forces by high-accuracy displacement sensors installed in the spindle unit. The DC component of the cutting force is estimated from displacement signals by using a simple signal processing. Experiments are carried out under end milling operations for aluminum, carbon steel, and cast iron. It is shown that the monitoring of small and medium scale cutting forces is possible by the proposed method with sufficient precision.
