摘要：

Challenged by major changes of external research environment that universities are facing today, it is of significance to re-examine the role that private researches have played in the sustainable development of universities. The paper first explores reasons why private researches were much less concerned in universities than government-sponsored researches. It then goes further to explore the contribution that private researches made to universities. It comes to the suggestion that research management regulations in researches should be adjusted to improve both the quantity and quality of private researches.
