Each year the Florida Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO), and City/County Governments are given the unenviable task of developing a priority list of transportation projects (i.e, roadway, air, bridge, rail, bike/pedestrian, etc.) to be included in the Tentative Work Program. Often there is controversy between the government agencies, as well as the general public as to where a specific project should fall on the list because of potential land use and environment priorities and concerns. To date, a good mechanism has not been developed for analyzing and presenting both the costs and benefits of a given project to all concerned parties. The objective of this project is to develop and demonstrate an Intermodal Transportation Planning Decision Support and Visualization System (ITP-DSVS). The purpose of the system is to aid State DOTS, MPOs, and City/County governments in assessing potential projects and developing priority lists. The system, consisting of modeling, mapping, data analysis, and visualization subsystems, is intended to provide FDOT, MPOs, and City/County governments with some technology tools that can help in meeting the requirements for comprehensive planning.
