Slavisms as a problem of translation: German-Ukrainian translation

In this paper Slavisms which can be found in the works of German-speaking writers who lived in Galicia and Bukovyna, and particularly in short stories by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, were studied. The following functions of Slavisms are described as related to literary works: nominative, culturological, stylistic, and pragmatic. Approaches to rendering Slavic cultural details in translations from German to Ukrainian are examined. The paper also analyses the rendering of Slavic linguaculturemes on the basis of the text of Maria Matios' novel Co pi o partial derivative kappa a apyc (Sweet Darusya) translated into German.
