摘要:
Increasing attention is being paid to the impact of discrimination on the health of oppressed groups. In this chapter, we review the impact of the personal experience of discrimination on the health and well-being of people with intellectual disabilities. We begin by addressing conceptual and methodological issues facing research on links between discrimination and health. We then review: (1) research that has addressed the impact of the personal experience of discrimination on the health of oppressed groups; (2) what is known about the extent to which people with intellectual disabilities experience personal discrimination; (3) the literature that has attempted to address the impact of the personal experience of discrimination on the health of people with intellectual disabilities; (4) the literature on interventions aimed at reducing the exposure to or impact of discrimination among people with intellectual disabilities. Finally, we provide some suggestions and recommendations for future research in this area.
