Study on the spectrophotometric determination of micro amounts of selenium(IV) with 2,3-diaminonaphthalene in the presence of sodium dodecylsulphate

A method for the spectrophotometric determination of micro amounts of selenium(IV) in aqueous phase has been developed. A time-consuming extraction process is not required due to the use of sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS). Over the range of 0-40 mu g/10 ml the calibration curve is linear with Sandell's sensitivity being 0.0029 mu g.cm(-2). As compared with the toluene-extraction spectrophotometry, the present method is simple, rapid and sensitive. It has satisfactorily been used for the determination of Se(IV) in human hair.
