Knowledge management practices and innovation

The management of knowledge is considered critical in a knowledge-based economy and an important input into innovation. Yet to many managers, the idea that knowledge needs to be created and managed is still relatively new. Indeed, many managers may not even see knowledge as different from information. The paper presented at this conference will summarize the results of an exploratory study aimed at defining knowledge and identifying how knowledge is created and managed. It will also provide an overview of whether or not the firms surveyed have programs in place to increase organizational knowledge capacity and whether firms acknowledge a link between knowledge management and innovation.
