摘要
I discuss the complementary role that ground-based and space-based investigations play in studying important problems in modern astrophysics. I highlight two such problems where ground-based and space-based observations each contribute valuable information: the formation of galaxies, and the evolution of the "Adolescent Universe." Ultraviolet spectroscopic data are important aspects of these studies and capabilities needed for a future UV/optical space observatory are considered.
