Third sector and civil society

Formation of non-profit, non-governmental sector of civil society is an important factor of political transformation and modernization of the Slovak Republic. Recent proposal of Law on foundations, elaborated by the Ministry of Justice of the SR represents an effort of the state administration to define legal position of foundations as collective actors. The proposal roused a campaign of civic initiatives and foundations, called Third sector SOS for stopping preparation of the Law and making the proposal a subject of public discussion. The transcription of the round table discussion organised by Editors of Sociologia presents the ideas of sociologists, philosophers, politologists, historians and lawyers concerning the role of non-governmental sector in development of civil society in Slovakia. The discussion resulted in proposals of themes for interdisciplinary research on non-government organizations mainly in the period after passing the Law on foundations in National Council.
