Binuclear Pd-II and Pt-II complexes of the type [M(2)Cl(2)(mu-Opy)(2)(PR(3))(2)] [M = Pd or Pt; Opy = 2-OC5H4N (2-hydroxypyridinate ion); PR(3) = PEt(3), Pn-Bu(3), PMe(2)Ph or PMePh(2)] were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, H-1- and P-31-n.m.r. spectroscopies. The Pd complexes exist in the sym trans form, whereas the corresponding Pt complexes were generated as different isomers.
