Curriculum Development: Transmission Expansion Planning for Systems with Renewable Energy Resources

摘要
The motivation for this panel session is the rapid increase in the utilization of renewable resources in power systems. These renewable resources require concomitant transmission to bring energy from the sources to the points of utilization. There has been a considerable effort to add to power engineering mechanisms to incorporate renewable generation, but these efforts have not included transmission engineering issues. Traditional power engineering programs, both graduate and undergraduate, often omit a detailed discussion of transmission expansion methods. The motivation for this panel is the need for curricula to include transmission expansion engineering, especially in the case of increased penetration of renewable resources.
