摘要
This study examines the effects of a criminal justice capstone course on student levels of civic literacy and civic engagement. The course was designed to provide students with insights into the intersection between criminal justice policies and practices and the political process. The goals of the course included helping students more fully understand criminal justice policies and practices and where they come from and helping to motivate them to participate in the political process and be more knowledgeable when they do. An evaluation of the course utilized a mixed-methods approach involving pre- and post-semester surveys and reflections submitted at the end of the course. Quantitative and qualitative results of this study indicate a shift in students' civic literacy and engagement throughout the semester. The findings of this research highlight the pivotal role of education in nurturing informed and engaged citizens.
