摘要
Over the last two decades, researchers have analyzed the relationship between open access and the impact of scientific publications. Despite this research, the role of open access routes in scientific publishing still requires further investigation. In order to address this issue, this study aims to identify the availability and the impact of papers, in Dentistry field, published from 2002 to 2018, through open access by (co) authors with a Brazilian affiliation. This study made use of scientometric methods and retrieved 14,551 papers from Web of Science. The analysis found that only 24% of Brazilian Dentistry publications were available through open access. Both green and gold open access routes were more frequently used than only one of them. Articles in gold open access, or with simultaneous green and gold access, were mainly published by national publishers, while those available only in the green route were published solely by international publishers. Open access did not provide any citation advantage, and publications in national journals were less impactful. Finally, the analysis revealed that articles available in green open access, published from 2004 to 2018, had a greater citation impact than those in closed access.
