Preparation and evaluation of water-soluble chondroitin sulfate-curcumin conjugate

摘要
Curcumin (Cur) is widely known for its medicinal properties. However, the extremely poor solubility of Cur in aqueous solutions limits its use in pharmaceutical applications. A water-soluble chondroitin sulfate-curcumin conjugate (CS-Cur) was synthesized in order to improve the solubility of Cur in this paper. The CS-Cur was characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The anti-tumor activity of CS-Cur was detected by live/dead cell staining assay and MTT. The results showed that CS-Cur conjugates exhibited excellent solubility in water, comparing with pure Cur. CS-Cur had significantly inhibitory effect on tumor cells in a dose-dependent manner.
