The article interprets positive emotions as a factor of the effectiveness of foreign language education of undergraduates of a technical university. The features of the professional competence of a university teacher from the point of view of creating conditions for a positive emotional atmosphere in the process of learning a foreign language are considered. To the teacher needs to deeply understand what sphere of professional activity awaits the graduate, the characteristics of this activity, and the needs of a person to ensure the personal and professional development of a future specialist. A foreign language teacher working at a technical university must necessarily have a modern and clear idea of the highly specialized field of the student he is teaching. However, it is impossible to interpret a student's future profession in a one-sided way. It is concluded that the professional world of a student, a graduate of a technical university is not limited to knowledge of the scientific and industrial sphere and communication on scientific and highly specialized topics. It should be understood that a young specialist receiving technical education, initially at the level of practical training at a manufacturing enterprise, then at the beginning of the path of formation and development of his career, will have to cope with professional adaptation, which organically consists of the manifestation of personal, psychological, social, behavioral components. Successful professional adaptation allows a person to show a set of personal qualities, cooperation skills and many others, which will determine effective, comfortable, and therefore productive professional interaction and positive results. The article emphasizes that teaching a foreign language at a technical university should be especially distinguished by the emotional involvement of students in this activity. It is the lively interest, positive emotional response, deep personal interest of the student in the work performed, in educational interaction with the teacher and other students that are the important conditions for achieving significant results of students in the academic and professional sphere. The purpose of the article is to investigate the importance of positive emotions in the foreign language education of undergraduates of a technical university in terms of their role in improving its effectiveness. The importance of setting this goal is seen in the need to actualize the emotional sphere of the personality of students in order to achieve the best results in mastering professional foreign language communicative competence. To achieve the stated goal, the influence of positive emotions on foreign language activity, as well as the concept of emotional intelligence, was analyzed. The difficulties of developing foreign language communicative professional competence among master students are substantiated, and it is also proposed to use an English course for special purposes for the development of this competence. The principles of the organization of foreign language activity of master students focused on the development of foreign language communicative professional competence based on positive emotions of students are revealed. To achieve the stated goal, the following methods of pedagogical research were applied: study and analysis of the influence of positive emotions on the learning process; analysis of the concept of emotional intelligence; study of the features of the organization of foreign language activities at a technical university in order to develop foreign language communicative professional competence. Psychological and pedagogical methods were used: psychological and pedagogical observation; diagnostic conversations, surveys, interviews; self-observation method; methods of emotional self-regulation. The study was conducted on the basis of the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R.E. Alekseev as part of the study of the discipline "Foreign (English) language in the field of professional activity" by master students.
