Ⅰ. The Current Situation Facing China’s accession to the WTO, our pharmaceuticalindustries must prepare to meet extremelystrong competition, because 97% of the syntheticmedicines and antibiotics marketed in the country arecopies of foreign products. The key to meeting thischallenge lies in the development of new drugs basedon our own intellectual property rights. With regardto synthetic medicines, it will be difficult for us toachieve much in the near future as our pharmaceuticalindustry still lags far behind its counterparts in the
