Phosphonium or arsonium salt with primary alcohol can undergo the tandem reaction of deprotonation-oxidation-Wittig reaction in the presence of sodium hydroxide and manganese dioxide, providing a general and efficient method for the stereoselective synthesis of (E)-α,β-unsaturated enoates.
