摘要：

It is thought that the steel wire rope might have been invented as a solution for the fatigue fractures in chain links which occurred around 1825. At the time these chains were used in mines for lifting purposes. The author reviews the formulas regarding the calculation of wire rope endurance with bending fatigue. Critical comments are provided regarding each formula.
