The paper reports a systematic study of the distribution of the refractive index (RI) in microporous glasses produced by treating plates of sodium borosilicate two-phase glasses of two different compositions with an acid. It has been found that general regularities of the RI distribution are unaffected by varying the gauge of plates, but depends on the starting composition of the glass. In both samples studied, RI increases drastically on going from the surface to inner layers. The effect of alkalifying of glasses on the RI distribution was examined.
