Microprocessors are extensively being applied for executing complicated control commands. In spite of recent progress in microprocessor performances, limitation of the computing accuracy and processing time causes various problems and the current control system used today mainly consists of analog circuits. As for current control, control schemes to keep the current error within a prespecified limit have already been proposed. This paper proposes a new high performance control scheme which generates an optimal inverter switching pattern to minimize the difference between the actual controlled current and reference current at each sampling time. Digital signal processor TMS 320 is used for this purpose. It has an architecture suited for high speed multiplication and addition. The proposed algorithm deals with the instantaneous voltages and currents and therefore it exhibits a sufficiently high control performance not only in the steady state, but also in transient states.
