A survey is given of the production, consumption and foreign trade of plastics in the Netherlands in 1972. Production of plastics is 18. 2% higher as compared with 1971. ″Apparent″ consumption was lower than in 1971 and 1970, because of being deficient of this notion's definition. Existing capacities as well as recently announced capacities are surveyed. Consumption of PVC increased by 8%, that of PS by 6%, HDPE 19%, low density PE 7%. The price levels of most plastics are comparatively stable. The future trend depends on the role of competition and raw materials supply.
