摘要
The subject of the present thesis is the extent to which fling-off cooling of straight spur gear teeth plays a role in the withdrawal of the frictional heat generated in the meshing zone. Three fling-off cooling methods are considered - namely, conventional intermittent cooling, a relatively unknown fling-off cooling method through continuous supply of the gear oil to the roots of the tooth faces to be cooled, and another continuous method in which cooling occurs naturally through the impingement of comparatively cool droplets from an oil mist. The cooling potentialities of both the continuous methods are examined and compared with those of the intermittent cooling. The gain in cooling capacity achievable by the root supply method with respect to the intermittent one is somewhat disappointing. Yet, for thermally demanding applications continuous cooling by root supply would appear recommendable, albeit mainly in cases where its more positive controllability might prove decisive.
