Petroleum Development in the North Sea.

The author discusses various factors influencing the drilling technology in the North Sea area. The major types of exploratory drilling platforms are discussed including jack-up rigs, semi-submersible rigs and drill-ships. Furthermore, the article presents the numerous parameters influencing the type, size, design and number of production platforms. Considered are the major types of offshore production platforms which are now being used, studied or developed including fixed structures anchored by piles, concrete gravity structures, steel gravity structures, tension-leg platforms and articulated gravity towers.
