Experimental work conducted with a solar/wind-powered/heat pump heating system on a residence located in Seattle, Washington is presented. The system was designed and constructed to obtain actual test data on the operation of solar/wind-powered/heat pump systems to determine the amount of useful energy that could be obtained from these sources. The system utilizes a conventional solar system integrated with hydronic heating, a water-to-air heat pump, and a thermal energy storage system for levelizing the demand and a wind-generator. Data are presented illustrating the performance and cost effectiveness of the system. Data were collected over one year of operating the system at a residence under actual living conditions.
