Influence of Temperature Variations on the Oxidation Behavior of Zirconium. Comparison with Cobalt.

Experimental data show that an abrupt temperature decrease during the oxidation of zironium significantly increases oxidation rate, whereas in cobalt the effect of such a temperature change on the ultimate oxidation rate is negligible. These results are discussed in terms of the relative plasticities of oxide and metal.
