Bolnes Motorenfabrick NV took the opportunity to reduce fuel consumption of its two-stroke crosshead engines substantially using Brown Boveri's HR (high efficiency) turbochargers. Some 5% lower consumption was realized with Bolnes type 170/600 engines and up to 10-11% on 150/600 engines. A design review of this engine is presented in this article.
