The analysis of the desorption of volatile components from the circulating water of the commercial cooling-towers at the Avdeevskij and Donettsk coke plants is performed. The analysis revealed that 23.6-40.1% ammonia, 50% hydrogen cyanide, 6.7-51.2 volatile phenols, 27.3-68% H2S, and 18.2-41.7% CO2 pass to an air atmosphere. The use of a so-called ″closed″ cycle of water cooling improves the ecological conditions, but complicates the procedure of catching the benzene hydrocarbons and hydrogen sulfide from the coke gases.
