Ultrasonic treatment of aluminum melts belongs to nonconventional casting techniques. Experiments show that the effect of this melt treatment is particularly pronounced in case of simple and technologically nonoptimized casting processes or under unfavorable casting conditions. In die casting, a positive effect of this treatment cannot be so easily determined because no meaningful quality improvement occurs; however, the advantage of this treatment in this case is stabilization of casting quality, i. e. , generation of homogeneous quality, in particular in castings featuring different wall thicknesses.
