Greenwich Resources has re-established gold mining operations at Gebeit, 220km north-west of Port Sudan. Gebeit was worked intermittently until 1975 and records suggest that around 4. 3 t (140,000 oz) of gold may have been extracted from the high grade lodes over this time. However, the depth of mining was restricted by ventilation problems and the full potential of the gold-bearing horizons was never realized. The article covers geology, mining and milling operations.
