Grinding the bore of sintered tungsten carbide roll blanks to high geometric and dimensional tolerances frequently took 4 hours or more. Boring with a SYNDITE PCD (polycrystalline diamond) tool followed by finish grinding has cut the process time to 1 one quarter hours and reduced costs by 50%. The results of tests to establish optimum machining parameters are described in this report.
