The design and construction of the recently completed 107 m-high Asfalou arch dam in Morocco is described. The structure is a major element in the development of the Ouergha river for water supply and hydropower. This article presents in particular the geological and geotechnical background as well as the main features of the dam, bottom outlet, power station, spillway, diversion tunnel, grouting and drainage galleries, foundation treatment, drainage curtain, and monitoring equipment. Execution of works for the dam arch and spillway are likewise discussed.
