An explanation is given of recent research concerning the erosion of stator laminations of turboalternators. Consideration is given to the following factors which up to now have been neglected: thermal pitting of insulation, stacking pressure, temperature of stator laminations and transients in a 3-phase system. Tests were also conducted to obtain information concerning the erosion in magnetic circuits.
