Teletext service by the pattern transmission system was started in 1983. Another service, by the hybrid transmission system, was started in November, 1985. For receiving hybrid system teletext transmissions, a waveform equalizing system and a 'BEST' error correcting system have been developed. Further study has been made to develop two LSIs (MN8353, MN8354). The waveform equalizing system functions to equalize teletext signals distorted in the transmission line, and to slice the data and to regenerate clock pulses by digital-signal processing. The error correcting system functions to correct bit errors which arise in the transmission line by means of a (272,190) shortened difference-set cyclic code. The systems reduce reception errors and allow good reception even under 'ghost' conditions. The number of components and adjustment points has been considerably reduced, and stable characteristics have been obtained.
