A comparative study on the control strategies of permanent magnet synchronous motor drives for electric vehicles

A comparative experiment of three control techniques, i. e. vector control, direct torque control (DTC) and modified DTC based on voltage vector selection strategy is conducted on the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive used in Honda Civic 06My Hybrid electric vehicle. The results show that compared with other two control techniques, the modified DTC based on voltage vector selection strategy can markedly reduce the harmonic content of stator current and torque ripple with constant switching frequency, and so is an ideal control strategy of PMSM drive for electric vehicle.
