K.M. acknowledges the Fund for Scientific Research (Belgium) for financial assistance to the 1995 expedition on Lake Tanganyika. Dr E. Verheyen (Brussels; Belgium) co-ordinated this fieldwork. Other material was collected by the late A. Caljon (Bujumbura; Burundi) in 1989 and by K.M. together with B. Goddeeris (Brussels; Belgium); A; Cohen; (Tucson; Arizona; U.S.A.) and J.J. Tiercelin (Brest; France) in 1992. The 1997 material was collected by K.M. and I. Schön (Brussels; Belgium) during work for the GEF Tanganyika project; funded by MRAG (London; U.K.). Both authors also acknowledge financial support of the Belgian National Lottery towards the acquisition of a Scanning Electron Microscope;
