Practical application of bioaugmentation technology during rapid start-up of a sewage treatment plant

In order to achieve rapid start-up of a wastewater treatment plant under low temperature, a practical application study on bioaugmentation technology was carried out at Harbin, Tai Ping sewage treatment plant for the first time. The results showed that co-addition of activated bacterium solution, bio-preparation together with bio-sludge and multiple culture of bacterium under ambient temperature of 10°C and sewage temperature of 14°C had efficiently overcome the negative effects of low temperature, low loading, poor nutrition and sewage quantity fluctuation etc. After treatment, the average concentration of COD, NH4+-N and SS were decreased from 210 mg/L, 37.4 mg/L and 218 mg/L to 44 mg/L, 2.3 mg/L and 16.6 mg/L respectively, the effluent quality preceded the design parameters. Therefore, the engineering application of bioaugmentation technology during rapid start-up of a sewage treatment plant under low temperature was successful and worthy of popularization.
