A High-Gain Sleeve Loaded Dielectric Rod Antenna for Millimeter-Wave Applications

摘要
In this paper, a new high-gain dielectric rod antenna (DRA) operating in the Ka-band is proposed. By adding a dielectric sleeve to the radiating structure of the DRA, the surface wave distribution on the DRA is altered and the aperture size is enlarged, realizing a high-gain performance DRA. The new high-gain DRA is fed by a rectangular metal waveguide and the impedance matching is achieved by a dovetail cone structure. The antenna operates at 26-40 GHz with a maximum gain of 21dBi. Compared to a conventional DRA, this antenna has an increase in gain of 3dB at the same height (6 lambda) despite an increase in cross-sectional size of 1.8 lambda. In addition, this paper proposed a way to achieve uniform signal strength coverage in a ground area by using the novel high-gain DRA.
