Critical reports by the forestry and hunting staff on the condition of the forests in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) caused the first regional forest regulation to come into existence in Saxony. On the one hand the authoritarian inspection in the forests could thus be strengthened, while the wood reserve needed for crafts and trades was secured on the other. The main ideas included in the forest regulation comprise careful and economical management of wood, the controlled enjoyment of the rights to secondary usage as well as a continuous timber yield from a forest area unchanged in size. This first forest regulation formed the basis of regulations in the forests that were drawn up later on with regard to the entire territory of the land Saxony.
