1ST RECORD OF CRYOSESTON IN THE BOHEMIAN FOREST MTS (SUMAVA)

Cryoseston was recorded in snow fields near lakes Cerne, Prasilske and Plesne (the Bohemian Forest Mts.) for the first time, on May 19-21, 1992. Algae Chlamydomonas sp., Chloromonas brevispina, Chloromonas cryophila, Chroococcus scherffelianus, Cryocystis brevispina, Cryodactylon glaciale, Scotiella nivalis, S. muscicola and fungi Chionaster nivalis and Selenotila nivalis were found in snow. Only in two fields by Plesne lake the snow algae were dense enough (1 435,000 cells per ml, dry weight 228 mg/1) to create a typical coloured, green, spots on snow. In other fields the snow was dirty but not coloured, snow algae, however, were present, too. It is the first record of cryoseston in the Bohemian Forest Mts.
