IMPACT OF USER-CENTERED DESIGN METHODOLOGY ON THE DESIGN OF INFORMATION-SYSTEMS

User-centered design, a design methodology that originated from the human-computer interface discipline, can significantly influence the design of information systems. This paper will examine the implications of incorporating user-centered design within information systems design practices. It will first briefly define the user-centered design methodology. Reasons why to integrate user-centered design with information systems design will be discussed. It will explore the type of questions it asks about its users and their associated tasks and what impact these questions can have on information systems design. Questions when and when not to apply user-centered design with information systems will also be investigated.
