摘要：
The article has as its central theme the analysis of the rules for choosing the rectors from federal institutions of higher education in Brasil, in view of the constitutional principle of university autonomy. An analytical historical approach to university autonomy is made in order to define the contours and dimensions of autonomy. After initial premises, the analysis of the rules of Law No. 5.540 / 68 is made in comparison with article 207 of the Constitution of the Republic.
