SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CIS-DIOXOMOLYBDENUM(VI) COMPLEX OF THE SCHIFF-BASE SALICYLALDEHYDE ISONICOYHYDRAZONE (SAIH) AND THE CRYSTAL-STRUCTURE OF [MOO2(ORTHO-C6H4CH=NN=COC5H4N)CH3OH]

[MoO2(butanediolato)2.2(butanediol)] reacts with the Schiff base SAIH in methanol to afford the title complex which has been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and electronic spectroscopy and TGA. The single crystal X-ray structure of the complex reveals that the molecule possesses the usual cis-MoO2(2+) core and that the ligand SAIH is present as a tridentate donor coordinating through ONO, which forms one five-membered ring and one six-membered ring. The sixth coordination site around Mo is occupied by a methanol molecule, giving the molybdenum a distorted octahedral configuration.
