The mediating effect of capabilities in technology and information systems in the relation between supply chain management and competitive performance

The purpose of this article is to identify the mediating effect of capabilities in technology and information systems (CapT-SI) on the relation between supply chain management (SCM) and competitive performance (CP) by mixed method, dividing the research into qualitative and quantitative phases. In the qualitative phase, data from ten companies were collected, further treated by Bardin's content analysis; in the quantitative phase, data were collected from 125 companies, treated by multivariate statistics, with exploratory, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling with application of correlation coefficients calculations and Student t test values to validate the hypotheses formulated. The results showed that the CapT-SI exert a mediating function between SCM and CP, because structural coefficient and t values found in the model were higher in the presence of CapT-SI than in the direct relation between SCM and CP.
