摘要
The Renaissance Project set out to demonstrate the potential for University teaching of interactive multimedia. This aspect is a general survey of the work of the mathematics team. The first phase was to produce a hypertext version of a numerical analysis teaching package and a set of mathematical and graphics software tools for use with HyperCard. The second phase was to produce a set of multimedia modules about mathematics, starting with a historical introduction and including the topics basic algebra, mathematical functions, co-ordinate geometry, calculus, and mathematical modelling, with biographical sketches of several famous mathematicians. General educational issues arising from this work are discussed, such as the advantages and disadvantages of computer-based materials. Technical, design and authoring issues are discussed: some general, such as navigating in hypertext, and some particular to mathematics, such as the display of mathematical expressions.
