摘要：
The role of English in the 21st century has increased in the recent years more than ever before. Effective mastering of the language, the ability to publish and teach in it is very topical. In order to publish in English it is necessary to adopt basic techniques of general translation and the translation of geographical (topographical) names. Sometimes, the translations of geographical texts include mistakes and are inaccurate. In the paper, we aim to give the introductory to geographical names, map out the ways how geographical names of Slovak localities are translated in geographical texts and then, to discuss the most suitable ways to translate them.
