DESCRIPTION OF A NEW SPECIES OF TRICHOMYCTERUS (SILUROIDEI, TRICHOMYCTERIDAE) FROM THE STATE OF SANTA-CATARINA, WITH A SYNOPSIS OF THE COMPOSITION OF THE FAMILY TRICHOMYCTERIDAE IN EASTERN BRAZIL

A new Trichomycterus, collected in the river Cubatao, State of Santa Catarina, was described. The new species was included in a group of taxa composed by T. concolor, T. iheringi, T. mimonha, T. mirissumba, T. trigutatus and T. vermiculatus proposed by Costa (9) to cluster together the Trichomycterinae species which have the supra orbital pores localized directly above the eyes. T. cubataonis n.sp. is readily distinguished from these taxa by its color pattern and by presenting the first pectoral ray not prolonged in a filament. A synopsis of the composition and distribution of the family Trichomycteridae in eastern Brazil and a key for the identification of the local genera were also presented. The species Stegophilus passareli Ribeiro, 1944 was transferred to the genus Homodiateus Eigenmann & Ward, 1900.
